Art, Artistry, Creativity - Where I Get My Left-Brain Gene

Some of my oldest memories were related to being creative. For me, this came through design principles. I didn't know it at the time, but by organizing my Hot Wheels by size, type, and color, all equidistant from one another, I was slowly formulating an eye for detail. Fast forward to 2016, and I find myself receiving a Course Director's Award in Graphic Design from Full Sail University. My instructor was preaching about CRAP, (such and ironic acronym for contrast, relativity, alignment, and proximity), and I was thinking back to my days of playing with matchbox sized cars.

In high school, I was obsessed with architecture. I later realized that I was more obsessed with interior design, and aesthetics of design more than the math and engineering involved in the profession. This love matched well with my smaller independent study classes, video production (creative), yearbook (creative), ceramics (creative), and leadership (creative).

After high school, I became involved in music promotion. For this hobby, I made posters for local music shows, created graphics used on flyers and tee-shirts, and started writing rhymes.

I wasn't until years later, 2016 to be exact, years of suppressing my creativity that I decided that I wanted to be (a) creative as my profession. This is when I started to pursue a creative degree and launch www.mattcosta.me. Brand Strategy is where I can put all of my passion to use and help others by being creative.

This passion, this drive, and the future ahead is all thanks to my mom, Shelly Bays-Costa (and my dad too!), and her love of everything creative.

Bon Voyage. Here's to Spirit Tribe Studio.
